Last week, our female sheep at @thebraesbnb.co.uk were treated to their annual ultrasound scan, to check how many lambs are expected. This is important in preparing for spring #lambing and we were happy to learn that lots of the ewes are expecting twins, with some triplets and quads thrown in for good measure - busy times ahead!
Scanning each sheep takes just a few seconds, in the hands of a skilled operator.
Grass grows only slowly during mid-winter around @LomondTrossachs National Park, therefore our expectant ewes at the Braes are now receiving supplementary feed. This ensures balanced nutrition for the mums-to-be, as lambing approaches.
This feeding routine is very popular with the sheep themselves (see photo), although it can be a chore to carry out when the weather is poor. Fortunately, we’ve been enjoying a beautiful spell of cold and clear weather, so both the sheep and their carers are happy for now!
Recent falls of snow have really brightened up the landscape, as seen in the photo on the right...
Thankfully, the good folk from @StirlingCouncil are doing a fantastic job of keeping roads free from snow and ice, so guests don't need to worry about reaching us safely.
Cold and bright outside plus toasty inside = happy!
